Many, many centuries ago...

Helle is the daughter of King Asmund and Queen Alva. An only child, Helle is the one true heir to the Viking Kingdom of Volsung. And yet she knows nothing of this, for Helle was switched at birth for the son of her evil Uncle Bard. King Asmund was convinced by his brother that a female heir would weaken the Kingdom, but in truth Bard wants the throne for himself... 

As Helle grows into a woman, Asmund realises his mistake. She is strong, brave and good. Helle is the best choice for succeeding Asmund on the throne. But Bard will not be thwarted. He murders Asmund before the truth is revealed, and frames Helle for the death of the King.
