We’ve just received the great news that Steve McQueen’s film, Shame, received the FIPRESCI – International Federation of Film Critics – Award for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival! It was also announced that the film’s star, Michael Fassbender, won the award for Best Actor at the festival!
Shame is produced by See-Saw Films’ Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, who recently won the Oscar for Best Film with The King’s Speech. See-Saw and Transmission, who will be distributing Shame to Australia and New Zealand in early 2012, are thrilled to be working on another project that is already garnering so much critical acclaim!
See-Saw’s Emile Sherman said: “See-Saw is extremely proud of this film and we congratulate Michael Fassbender on the recognition by the Venice Film Festival Jury, headed by Darren Aronofsky, of his brave and powerful performance. Colin Firth previously won this award and went on to win the Oscar for Best Actor so we are very excited that this award puts Michael on the same path.”
We’re also thrilled to hear another of our films to screen at Venice, The Orator, won the CICAE award. This prize is awarded to a film that promotes the values of peace and dialogue between cultures through cinema.
Shame will also screen at the upcoming San Sebastian, Toronto and New York Film Festivals.
