AUSTRALIA’S UNSUNG HERO BROUGHT TO THE SCREEN

Paramount Pictures and Transmission Films have acquired the Australian made documentary film SALUTE as part of the newly forged distribution partnership. SALUTE is the second film to be released under the partnership and tells the true story of Peter Norman, who was the 200m Silver Medalist in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games and involved in the historically political “Black Power Protest” with African American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

Sadly Peter Norman passed away in 2006 but his story has been captured by his nephew, Melbourne based filmmaker Matt Norman who directed and produced SALUTE.

1968 was a pivotal year with some world changing events taking place such as the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy and on October 16 at the Olympic Games history was made. As well as reflecting on this historical event SALUTE is also relevant to current affairs surrounding the Beijing Olympics and Matt Norman has been involved in making the message of Civil and human rights heard during the lead up to these Olympics. Norman, who has been invited to meet with the Dalai Lama in Sydney on the 11th June 2008, says “opening communication between the Tibetan people and the Chinese government by speaking about the real need for change in China should be the catalyst to the upcoming Olympic games”.

Matt Norman’s film SALUTE will have its World Premiere at the upcoming Sydney Film Festival on the 8th of June at the State Theatre in Sydney. In July the Official biography “A Race To Remember -The Peter Norman Story’” will be released by Co-Authors Damian Johnstone and Matt Norman which tells the entire story of Peter Norman from start to finish. Its important Matt says that Australian’s and the rest of the World get to know of one of its own hero’s who has flown under the radar for so many years.

DAVID CAESAR’S TRUCKIN’ LOVE STORY HITS THE ROAD

‘PRIME MOVER’

starring Michael Dorman, Emily Barclay, William McInnes, Anthony Hayes, Gyton Grantley & Ben Mendelsohn

PRIME MOVER, the new feature film by director David Caesar (Dirty Deeds, Mullet) and producer Vincent Sheehan (Little Fish, Mullet) commences shooting today in Dubbo, New South Wales.

PRIME MOVER is a diesel charged love story about ambition, pressure, responsibility and the love shared by a man, a woman and his truck.

Rising talent Michael Dorman (Suburban Mayhem, Secret Life of Us and the soon to be released Acolytes and Daybreakers) stars alongside 2006 AFI Award winning actress Emily Barclay (Suburban Mayhem), the star of Sea Change and Look Both Ways William McInnes, current television goldenboy Gyton Grantley (Underbelly), two time AFI Award winner Anthony Hayes and iconic screen favourite Ben Mendelsohn.

As the cameras started rolling today, director David Caesar said, “It really is a dream cast and I’m excited to be working with such an energetic and talented group of actors.”

Film producer, Vincent Sheehan said, “David has such a knack for capturing thoughtful yet thoroughly entertaining slices of everyday life. His script for PRIME MOVER is both funny and moving and this time he’ll be using some truly unique cinematic magic to bring the wide open spaces of this world to life, in a way never before seen in Australian cinema.”

PRIME MOVER will be one of the first Australian films to be released by Transmission Films – the newly formed Sydney-based film distribution company founded by Richard Payten and Andrew Mackie (formerly Joint General Managers of Dendy Films).

“We’ve worked with David and Vincent before and have such respect for their talents,” said Payten and Mackie. “PRIME MOVER has all the right ingredients to be something special. It’s a big-feel, diesel-powered love story, but it has a wonderful whimsical quality and characters that dare to dream big. Audiences are going to fall in love with this film next year.”

PRIME MOVER was financed by investment from the private sector, the Film Finance Corporation (FFC) and the New South Wales Film and Television Office (FTO) who also supported the film through the AURORA Script Workshop. PRIME MOVER will be one of the first Australian films utilising the new Producer Tax Offset Scheme with funds from new player, Media Funds Management.

PRIME MOVER will open in cinemas nationally in mid 2009.
